CEC & ILO facilitates Productivity Workshop in Grenada
GEORGE’S , 8th February, 2017 The Grenada Employers’ Federation (GEF) invites your news team to cover the opening ceremony of the CEC-ILO-GEF Membership Workshop on Productivity Improvements. The aim of the workshop is to allow employers to gain an understanding of issues of Productivity and to explore ways of improving.
This Workshop is carded for Thursday 9th February, 2017 at the St. George’s Suite, Grenadian by Rex Resorts, Point Salines, St. George’s. The opening ceremony begins at 9:00 am.
The Grenada Employers’ Federation (GEF) is hosting this workshop in collaboration with the Caribbean Employers’ Confederation (CEC) and International Labour Organization (ILO).
This membership engagement forms part of the European Union (EU) funded project: Challenges to CARIFORUM Labour, Private Sector and Employers’ to fulfil their EPA Obligations: Caribbean Employers’ Confederation (CEC) and the Caribbean Congress of Labour (CCL) Component of the Support to Facilitate Participation of CARIFORUM Civil Society in Regional Development and Integration Process.

In a renewed campaign to enhance the productivity and competitiveness of Dominican enterprises in the regional and international markets, the Dominica Employers’ Federation in collaboration with the Caribbean Employers’ Confederation (CEC) and the International Labour Organisation (Caribbean Office) (ILO), with funding from the European Union (EU), will host a one-day Workshop on the theme “Productivity Improvements for Small and Micro Enterprises (SMEs)”, on Monday 6th February, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Fort Young Hotel, Roseau. A total twenty-five (25) entrepreneurs and social partners from the Ministry of Commerce, Labour Unions and private sector will participate in the workshop.
The Productivity workshop is designed to help small enterprises in Dominica understand the issues of productivity, and explore ways in which they can be improved. Topics to be discussed are:
Coordinator for the Workshop, and Labour-Management Analyst with the Dominica Employers’ Federation, Michelle Marshall, stated, “The Dominica business model has forever been characterised by low productivity and competitiveness in the local, regional and international product markets as we seem to be known more for costs rather than quality. Therefore, this Workshop will challenge participants to make productivity improvements a critical part of the model because if we boost productivity, we can improve economic growth.”
Labour Commissioner in the Ministry of Justice, Immigration & National Security, Dr. Matthew Leblanc is carded to speak at the Opening Ceremony, along with Mr. Benoit Bardouille, President, DEF; Ms. Vanessa Phala, Senior Specialist on Employers’ Activities, ILO; and Ms. Gabrielle Johnson, National Project Officer, CEC.

This Workshop is part of regional training organised through the European Union (EU) funded project to strengthen the capacity of Employer Organizations within the Caribbean Employers’ Confederation (CEC) to play a greater role in regional policy making.
The Aim of the Workshop is to highlight Productivity Improvement method and to share
Productivity tools which have been developed by the International Labour Organization
(ILO).
The Jamaica Productivity Centre will make presentations on “Measures to Improve
Productivity” and on “Productivity and Competitiveness”. The Honourable Minister of
Labour and Social Security has been invited to be the Keynote Speaker at the Opening
Ceremony.
The Senior Specialist on Employers Activities from the International Labour Organization
(ILO) Trinidad, President of Jamaica Employers’ Federation (JEF) and President of Caribbean
Employers’ Confederation (CEC) as well as President of Jamaica Confederation of Trade
Unions (JCTU) will speak as the start of the Workshop.

The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) along with Caribbean Employers’ Confederation and International Labour Organization (ILO) will be hosting a Workshop on “Productivity Improvements for Small & Micro Enterprises”, on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel, Philip Goldson Highway, Belize City.
The Productivity Improvements for Small and Micro Enterprises Workshop will allow the private sector, particularly SMEs to receive important information on different objectives such as: to identify the productivity and competitiveness issues in Belize, to identify measures to improve productivity at organizational levels, to learn of ILO’s Best Practices and Tools to improve productivity and to discuss policies and strategies to address productivity.
The BCCI recommends that Business Owners, Human Resources Managers and Heads of the different departments to attend the Productivity workshop as this topic of discussion is a major asset for many business people. A productive workforce leads to a profitable business which in turn leads to a successful business. To fully understand what Productivity Improvement means, you must go past a literal definition, develop a stronger understanding of the concept and learn how you can achieve this goal. This workshop is the appropriate place to begin.
